The Role

As a core member of the leadership team, the Head of Finance, administers the highest level of fiscal responsibility within a fast –growing organization. The ideal candidate is a hands-on and instinctually curious individual who will forge close relationships with all departments to provide interpreted data and advise on profitability strategies. This role works closely with the CEO and COO on growth and acquisition plans, capital investments and compensation models. Low ego and high energy, this VP knows not only the what, but the how and will roll up their sleeves to get the job done.

This position will report to the Chief Operating Officer and be based out of our Vancouver, BC office.

Your Responsibilities

In addition to sharing your ideas on how we can grow, learn and build in this role, you’ll also be:

  • Providing strategic management of the accounting and finance functions
  • Managing and overseeing the relationship with independent auditors
  • Provide expert guidance in negotiating and structuring vendor contracts and leases
  • Implementation and management of payroll processing system and team
  • Identifying and managing business risks and insurance requirements
  • Responsible for pricing policies and educated building of pro forma returns
  • Responsible for financial representation of strategic plans, including, monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports with meaningful variance and other analysis
  • Building cash flow and taxation models to analyze the risks/benefits of operating in cross-border jurisdictions
  • Ensuring all financial transactions are appropriately processed and recorded in the proper accounts in a manner that meets all applicable audit and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that regulatory and statutory reporting and remittances are met across all regions
  • Leverages and augments existing systems to provide accurate, reliable, and meaningful reporting, analysis, and insight
  • Identify gaps in financial reporting capability and implement solutions that improve functionality and efficiency
  • Participate in managing the relationship with tax experts and development of effective and optimized tax strategies
  • Management of banking relationships; covenants and investments

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

We believe that a great team is built on a collection of diverse skills, knowledge and experiences and we consider all of this when we review your application:

  • CPA designation; MBA is an asset
  • 7+ years of proven experience as CFO, VP, Finance, Director of Finance, or comparable role
  • Experience working with multi-unit and cross-border sites
  • Experience with US business rules and regulations
  • Experience executing and leading payroll for Canada and US companies
  • Experience with IT and technology services and systems
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent analytical, reasoning, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
